A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO MR. JAMES C. BLACK OF MANNING ON HIS MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS, INCLUDING MOST RECENTLY BEING NAMED THE SOUTH CAROLINA AUTOMOBILE DEALERS ASSOCIATION'S 2003 TIME MAGAZINE QUALITY DEALER AWARD NOMINEE.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the members of the House of Representatives show their appreciation to prominent South Carolina business owners for their hard work and commitment to excellence in providing goods and services to the citizens of this State; and

Whereas, business owners must have firm determination, great knowledge of their industry, and effective communication skills to operate successful companies in any market; and

Whereas, Mr. James C. Black of Manning possesses all of the qualities that one needs to be a successful proprietor in the automobile industry and has been using those skills to increase sales and improve service to his customers since 1956 when he began his career in Sumter, South Carolina; and

Whereas, Mr. Black became a partner in Santee Motor Company in 1968 and, in 1978, he became the company's full owner, selling superior automobiles and satisfying his patrons' needs with kindness and concern; and

Whereas, in 1983, he became a Director on the South Carolina Automobile Dealers Association Board and has served in that capacity for several years; and

Whereas, he is not only involved with the everyday operation of Santee Motor Company but he has also been an active member of his community, where he was the Past President of the Manning Rotary Club and on the Board of Directors, holds a position as a member of the Board of Directors of the Clarendon Chamber of Commerce, serves as a current member and Past Chairman of the NBSC Advisory Board, and was a member of the Board of Clarendon County Planning Commission for fifteen years; and

Whereas, Mr. Black has received several honors and awards for his business knowledge and for his commitment to the Manning community, including being named the Clarendon County Business Person of the Year and receiving an award for his support of Dixie Youth Baseball; and

Whereas, he was most recently selected as the South Carolina Automobile Dealers Association's 2003 Time Magazine Quality Dealer Award Nominee because of his devotion to selling the best quality automobiles and providing excellent customer service; and

Whereas, he is also involved in events with the local high schools, the United Way, the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, and served as the Past President of the Lord Clarendon Cotillion. He is a member of the Manning United Methodist Church where he is the Chair of the Finance Committee and Past Chair of the Administrative Board; and

Whereas, he has enjoyed all of his success with his wife, Nell, and their children, Jim, Jr., of Greensboro, North Carolina; Jeffrey of Manning; and a deceased daughter, Kinsey Black Jones. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives extend congratulations to Mr. James C. Black of Manning on his many accomplishments, including most recently being named the South Carolina Automobile Dealers Association's 2003 Time Magazine Quality Dealer Award Nominee.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. James C. Black of Manning.
