THE COMMITTEE ON JUDICIARY

To whom was referred a Bill (S. 417) to amend Section 7-15-340, Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976, relating to the form of the application for an absentee ballot, so as to delete, etc., respectfully

REPORT:

That they have duly and carefully considered the same and recommend that the same do pass with amendment:

Amend the bill, as and if amended, page 1, line 27, in Section 7-15-340, as contain in SECTION 1, by striking /number,/ and inserting therein /    number,     /.

Renumber sections to conform.

Amend title to conform.

A review of this bill by the State Election Commission indicates there will be no impact on the General Fund of the State or on federal and/or other funds.

A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 7-15-340, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE FORM OF THE APPLICATION FOR AN ABSENTEE BALLOT, SO AS TO DELETE THE REQUIREMENT THAT THE APPLICATION CONTAIN THE APPLICANT'S SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.        The second paragraph of Section 7-15-340 of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Act 434 of 1996, is further amended to read:

"The application must contain the following information: name, registration certificate number, address, absentee address, social security number, election of ballot request, election date, runoff preference, party preference, reason for request, oath of voter, and voter's signature."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
