A HOUSE RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE SUPPORT OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES FOR AN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROJECT NEAR THE MYRTLE BEACH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IN HORRY COUNTY.

Whereas, an internationally known company anticipates construction of a facility which would have a community investment of approximately one billion dollars; and

Whereas, the planned facility would potentially employ 1,200 workers, most of whom would be employed in high-paying, high-tech jobs; and

Whereas, the expansion to the area's tax base and diversification of the local economy would be a tremendous boom to the economy of the Grand Strand and the State of South Carolina; and

Whereas, the company requires a site which is 400 to 600 acres in size and which is contiguous to airport and rail services; and

Whereas, the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base has property which is currently undeveloped and which fits the criteria under consideration; and

Whereas, the company seeking to build the facility desires the cooperation of all appropriate local governmental entities and state government early in the process; and

Whereas, a resolution similar to this one is under consideration by the Myrtle Beach City Council, the Horry County Council, and the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base Redevelopment Authority, as an expression of the degree of state and local cooperation present and available on this matter; and

Whereas, PARTNERS Economic Development Corporation is the point of contact for the project and represents the area as a whole in this quest. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That by this resolution, the House of Representatives expresses it strong support for an economic development project near the Myrtle Beach International Airport in Horry County and urges the vigorous pursuit of this project; expresses its willingness to assist in working toward the goal of winning this project for the Grand Strand and the people of South Carolina; recognizes PARTNERS Economic Development Corporation as the development point of contact in this matter; and requests that PARTNERS keeps all cooperating entities apprised of all efforts and results on a timely basis.
