TO COMMEND THE ORGANIZERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA TOBACCO TRAIL CREATED FOR THE PURPOSE OF PRESERVING AND RECOGNIZING THE AGRICULTURAL HISTORY OF OUR STATE'S TOBACCO-GROWING REGION, AND TO THANK ALL THOSE WHO ARE HELPING THE TRAIL TELL THE STORY OF THIS IMPORTANT REGION OF OUR STATE.
Whereas, South Carolina is the nation's second largest flue-cured tobacco state with approximately five thousand farms which bring in approximately one hundred twenty million dollars annually; and
Whereas, the South Carolina General Assembly supports the efforts of the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce, the Latta Revitalization Commission, and the City of Mullins in creating the South Carolina Tobacco Trail; and
Whereas, the purpose of the trail is to preserve and conserve the region's rich agricultural history, and the trail will tell the story, past, present, and future, of the agricultural history of our state's tobacco-growing region; and
Whereas, the farmers and communities of the Pee Dee are endeavoring to help their own economic needs; and
Whereas, the trail will further positive economic growth for these farming communities as well as the tourism industry; and
Whereas, agri-tourism is one of the fastest growing areas in all tourism in South Carolina; and
Whereas, the entire tobacco-growing region of South Carolina will be invited to participate in the trail, and the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and congratulate the organizers of the South Carolina Tobacco Trail and those participating in it for this important and worthwhile endeavor. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly commend the organizers of the South Carolina Tobacco Trail created for the purpose of preserving and recognizing the agricultural history of our state's tobacco-growing region, and thank all those who are helping the trail tell the story of this important region of our State.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the South Carolina Tobacco Trail.
