A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NAME THE PORTION OF SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY 176 IN SPARTANBURG COUNTY FROM ITS INTERSECTION WITH COUNTRY CLUB ROAD TO THE SPARTANBURG COUNTY-UNION COUNTY LINE IN HONOR OF RETIRED SOUTH CAROLINA SUPREME COURT CHIEF JUSTICE CAMERON BRUCE LITTLEJOHN, AND TO ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS ALONG THIS STRETCH OF HIGHWAY CONTAINING THE WORDS "BRUCE LITTLEJOHN BOULEVARD".

Whereas, the Honorable Cameron Bruce Littlejohn was born on July 22, 1913, in Pacolet, South Carolina, the son of Cameron and Lady Sara Littlejohn; and

Whereas, he received an A. B. degree from Wofford College in 1935, an LL.B. degree from the University of South Carolina in 1936, an LL.D. degree from Wofford College in 1968, and a J.D. degree from the University of South Carolina in 1970; and

Whereas, Chief Justice Littlejohn was married to the former Inell Smith who died July 16, 1962; and

Whereas, he served his country with great valor during World War II; and

Whereas, Chief Justice Littlejohn served as a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1937 to 1943 and from 1947 to 1949, and as Speaker of the House of Representatives from 1947 to 1949; and

Whereas, he served as a Judge of South Carolina's Seventh Circuit from 1949 to 1967; and

Whereas, he was elevated to the South Carolina Supreme Court in 1967 and served as the Court's Chief Justice from 1984 to 1985; and

Whereas, it is fitting and proper for a portion of South Carolina

Highway 176 in Spartanburg County to be named after this distinguished Son of the Palmetto State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, request that the Department of Transportation name the portion of South Carolina Highway 176 in Spartanburg County from its intersection with Country Club Road to the Spartanburg County-Union County line in honor of Retired South Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Cameron Bruce Littlejohn, and to erect appropriate markers or signs along this stretch of highway containing the words "Bruce Littlejohn Boulevard".

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
