TO EXPRESS THE GENUINE CONDOLENCES OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF BENJAMIN EDWARD WATKINS OF BISHOPVILLE ON THE SAD OCCASION OF HIS DEATH SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 2004.
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives express their sincere sorrow upon the death of loving family man and community leader, Benjamin Edward Watkins, on Saturday, February 28, 2004; and
Whereas, born in Lee County, South Carolina, Benjamin Watkins was the son of the late Mr. Edward Lee Watkins and the late Mrs. Moise Pate Watkins; and
Whereas, Mr. Watkins was a regional sales representative for Staples Incorporated and was retired from DuPont in Lugoff; and
Whereas, a dedicated member of the Shiloh Truelight Church of Christ, Mr. Watkins was also a former member of the Lee County Council and a veteran of the Vietnam War; and
Whereas, remembered for his positive attitude, Mr. Watkins' friendliness, willingness to help others, and service to his community will not be forgotten by the countless citizens of Lee County whose lives he touched; and
Whereas, Mr. Watkins is survived by his wife, Enid Huntley Watkins, of Bishopville; five sons, Michael Watkins of Monroe, North Carolina, Alan Watkins of Bishopville, Curtis Watkins and his wife, Pam, of Hebron, Kentucky, Lauren Watkins of Bishopville, and Stephen Watkins and his wife, Maleah, of Monroe, North Carolina; one brother, Dr. William Curtis Watkins of Camden; four sisters, Mrs. Doris Kelly of Bishopville, Mrs. Sallie Brown of Bethune, Mrs. Ruth Davidson of Cheraw, and Mrs. Emily Best of Camden; and three grandchildren, Rebekah, Grace, and Braedon. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their genuine condolences to the family and many friends of Benjamin Edward Watkins of Bishopville on the sad occasion of his death, Saturday, February 28, 2004.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Enid Huntley Watkins of Bishopville.
