A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE C. E. MURRAY HIGH SCHOOL "WAR EAGLES" GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM FROM GREELEYVILLE ON WINNING THE 2004 CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, THEIR SECOND STRAIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP, AND TO COMMEND THEM FOR THEIR HARD WORK, COMPETITIVE SPIRIT, AND TEAMWORK.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to learn that the C. E. Murray "War Eagles" won the 2004 Girls Class A state championship by defeating a fine Christ Church team 56-43 at the Colonial Center in Columbia; and

Whereas, the Lady War Eagles played an excellent game against Christ Church especially on defense. As Christ Church Coach Sally Shurtz stated, "I knew they'd come out physical.", and added that the War Eagles' aggression hurt her team on the inside; and

Whereas, the Lady War Eagles finished the season with a 29-3 won/lost record including a great playoff record as follows:

1st Round        CEM-90        Hannah-Pamplico - 33

2nd Round    CEM-81        Blackville-Hilda - 36

3rd Round    CEM-69        Hunter Kinard Tyler - 49

4th Round        CEM-67        Estill - 47; and

Whereas, the 2004 C. E. Murray High School girls basketball championship team is comprised of: Andrea Dunnore, Deborah Wilson, Isis Harvin, Tomico Gibson, Shana Cooper, Yvonne Gamble, Tamieka Gibson, Tiffany McCrea, Valencia Miller, Alecia Brown, Shwanna Dunmore, Nealy Nesmith, Brittany Kennedy, and Nicole Woods; and

Whereas, the C. E. Murray girls were ably led by Coach Darren Mazyck who is one of the finest coaches in any classification. Assisting Coach Mazyck were assistant coaches Albertha Wilson and Ferrell Matthews and trainers, Adrean Woods, Stanley Montgomery, and Edward Starks. The entire basketball coaching staff received tremendous support during the year from Athletic Director Phillip Holmes, Assistant Principal William Stewart, and Principal Dr. Peter Smith; and

Whereas, C. E. Murray High School is a wonderful school in Greeleyville, South Carolina, that features quality teachers, achieving students, and outstanding classrooms, and the members of the General Assembly are proud of the spirit and accomplishments of the 2004 C. E. Murray High School "War Eagles" girls basketball team and take this opportunity to congratulate and commend them for their second straight state championship. Now therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly congratulate the C. E. Murray High School "War Eagles" girls basketball team of Greeleyville on winning the 2004 Class A State Championship, their second straight championship, and commend them for their hard work, competitive spirit, and teamwork.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coach Darren Mazyck of the C. E. Murray High School "War Eagles" girls basketball team.
