A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE THE KING ACADEMY GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM IN BATESBURG FOR WINNING THE SCISA CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP ON MARCH 6, 2004, AND WISH THE PLAYERS, COACHES, AND STAFF MUCH SUCCESS IN THEIR FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the Girls Basketball Team of W. Wyman King Academy in Batesburg defeated Newberry Academy in a thrilling championship game on March 6, 2004, at the Sumter County Exhibition Center to win the SCISA Class A State Championship; and

Whereas, it was the second consecutive championship game that the Knights met and conquered Newberry Academy and their third consecutive championship win. This year, the Lady Knights easily crushed Newberry for a 55-22 victory; and

Whereas, Kerianne Blease, who led the Knights victory scoring twenty-eight points; Brittany Matthews, another leading scorer and overall great player; and Lindsey Hollis, an outstanding defensive player and the only senior on the team, were the three players named to the State All Tournament Team; and

Whereas, led by head coach Joey Long, the members of the championship team were Allie Cameron, Nikki Bodie, Brittany Mappus, Kerianne Blease, Brittany Matthews, Haley Mappus, Leah Mills, Lindsey Hollis, Lauren Coleman, Paige Nichols, and Hollis Harmon; and

Whereas, the King Knights finished their spectacular season with twenty-three wins and only two losses, and this young team will be a sight to watch in the years to come; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to recognize such a talented group of young women as the King Academy Girls Basketball Team for their outstanding season and championship win. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and congratulate the King Academy Girls Basketball Team in Batesburg for winning the SCISA Class A State Championship on March 6, 2004, and wish the players, coaches, and staff much success in their future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the King Academy Girls Basketball State Championship Team.
