A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND COLUMBIA NATIVE DANIEL W. THOMPSON OF RICHLAND COUNTY FOR HIS LIFETIME SERVICES AND COMMITMENTS TO SOUTH CAROLINA, TO CELEBRATE HIS EIGHTY-SIXTH BIRTHDAY, AND WISH HIM MANY RETURNS OF THE DAY.

Whereas, Daniel Thompson's hard work, dedication, and professionalism has led him to a long successful career in advertisement with the Palmetto Leader, an African-American newspaper, where he has formed working relationships with many college presidents and other influential persons in the State; and

Whereas, Mr. Thompson has demonstrated great loyalty and admiration through his volunteer efforts with Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity; and

Whereas, the South Carolina State Conference of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity in November, 2003, was dedicated to Brother Daniel W. Thompson for his contributions to the fraternity; and

Whereas, Daniel Thompson was a charter member of the Collegiate Chapter (Alpha Omicron) of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., at Allen University in 1941, where he served the fraternity in a number of positions; and

Whereas, after completing his education at Allen University, he remained active with the collegiate chapter of Phi Beta Sigma as there was then no graduate chapter in the Midlands; and

Whereas, Brother Thompson was one of fifteen influential Sigma Brothers to establish the Columbia Alumni Chapter, Beta Chi Sigma; and

Whereas, he has participated in the initiation of more than two hundred Sigma Brothers including the initiation of the Honorable James T. Floyd, the twenty-fifth International President of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., a 1957 graduate of Allen University; and

Whereas, for his extraordinary record of community service and his dedication to the goals of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, it is appropriate for members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations so that they may pay tribute to Brother Daniel Thompson on the occasion of his eighty-sixth birthday. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and commend Columbia native Brother Daniel W. Thompson of Richland County for his lifetime services and commitments to this State and his beloved Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, on the occasion of his eighty-sixth birthday and wish him many returns of the day.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Brother Daniel W. Thompson.
