A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE ON THE DEATH OF EVANGELOS "ANGELO" LEONIDAS TSIANTIS OF COLUMBIA, AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Evangelos "Angelo" Leonidas Tsiantis at the age of seventy-five, on March 8, 2006; and

Whereas, Mr. Tsiantis was the beloved husband of Violet Brethes Tsiantis, and the proud father of son, Lee Tsiantis of Atlanta; daughters and sons-in-law Anna Maria and Mark Hobbs of Columbia and Vicki and Steve Thorne of Atlanta; the proud grandfather of Evan, John, Valerie, and Thomas Hobbs and Braden and Alexander Thorne; and loving brother to his brother and sister-in-law, Sotirios and Vasso Tsiantis of Columbia, and sister and brother-in-law, Voula and Constantinos Tsiantis of Athens, Greece; and

Whereas, Mr. Tsiantis was affectionately known by many as "Mr. A" and was the owner and operator for over fifty years of Zesto, Inc., a popular chain of local fast food restaurants; and

Whereas, throughout the years Mr. A and Zesto's have been the proud sponsor of numerous Little League teams; and

Whereas, he was a much admired member of the business community and was a founding member of the Board of Directors of the First Community Bank in Columbia and a member of the Eau Claire Development Association; and

Whereas, in 1996, he was selected by the International Festival Committee to be the International Business Person of the Year; and

Whereas, he was an active member of the Palmetto Chapter of the Order of the American Hellenic Education Progressive Association, where he served as president from 1981-1982, was treasurer and lieutenant governor on the district level, and was named AHEPAN of the year in 1982; and

Whereas, Mr.Tsiantis was a tireless worker for his church and was a five-time president of the Board of Directors of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church; and

Whereas, he was elevated to Archon of the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle, the highest honor bestowed upon laymen by the Ecumenical Patriachate of the Greek Orthodox Church; and

Whereas, Mr. Tsiantis earned the respect and admiration of all who knew and loved him, and the South Carolina Senate is proud to honor the many contributions that he made to his community and State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow on the death of Mr. Evangelos "Angelo" Leonidas Tsiantis and extend their deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his wife of fifty-three years, Mrs. Violet Brethes Tsiantis.
