A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE JOHN A. McALLISTER, JR., OF COLUMBIA ON RECEIVING THE ALVAH H. CHAPMAN, JR. DISTINGUISHED LEADERSHIP AWARD FOR 2006 AWARDED BY THE CITADEL SCHOOL OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION AND FOR HIS INDUCTION INTO THE CITADEL BUSINESS HALL OF FAME, AND FURTHER TO EXTEND TO HIM BEST WISHES IN ALL OF HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Mr. John A. McAllister, Jr., of Columbia, a native son of Mt. Carmel in McCormick County, has been selected by The Citadel School of Business Administration to receive the Alvah H. Chapman, Jr. Distinguished Leadership Award on April 13, 2006 in recognition of exceptional leadership; and to be inducted into The Citadel Business School Hall of Fame as a Leader of Principle; and

Whereas, the Chapman Award and Induction into The Citadel Business School Hall of Fame is recognition that John A. McAllister, Jr. has enjoyed success in business and been influential in business organization and made substantial contributions in other avenues of community life; and

Whereas, Mr. McAllister also has lived a life consistent with the mission of The Citadel School of Business Administration, which is to educate and develop Leaders of Principle to serve a global community; and

Whereas, Mr. McAllister graduated from The Military College of South Carolina, The Citadel, in 1980 with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration; and

Whereas, he is a graduate of the Executive Program of Professional Management at the Kenan-Flagler School of Business at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is a graduate of the program for Senior Managers in Government at the John F. Kennedy School of Government of Harvard University; and

Whereas, he is the youngest person elected to The Citadel Board of Visitors, and served with distinction in that capacity from 1988 until 1999; and

Whereas, Mr. McAllister served this state as a member of the South Carolina National Guard from 1980-2005, retiring having attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel; receiving among other awards the United States Meritorious Service Medal; the South Carolina Guardsman Retirement Medal; and the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with one Silver Oak Leaf Cluster and one Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster; the National Defense Service Medal; and the Humanitarian Service Medal; and

Whereas, he has served the nation as Southeastern Federal Power Administrator by appointment of The Secretary of The United States Department of Energy from 1988-1995, administering the allocation of hydroelectric power among the eleven southeastern states; and

Whereas, John A. McAllister, Jr. has served as President of the South Carolina Realtors Land Institute and currently serves as National President-elect of the Realtors Land Institute; has received the Thad Cwik Leadership Award from the South Carolina Realtors Land Institute in 2001; and was chosen Land Realtor of the Year for South Carolina in 2002; and serves on the National Board of Directors of the National Forest Landowners Association; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations to recognize the achievements and extend their congratulations to this distinguished son of South Carolina as he is honored by his alma mater. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, congratulate John A. McAllister, Jr., of Columbia on receiving the Alvah H. Chapman, Jr. Distinguished Leadership Award for 2006 awarded by The Citadel School of Business Administration and for his induction into The Citadel Business Hall of Fame, and further extend to him best wishes in all of his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to John A. McAllister, Jr.
