A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND MR. RAYMOND CAUGHMAN OF LEXINGTON, ONE OF SOUTH CAROLINA'S MOST RESPECTED BUSINESS, CIVIC, AND CHURCH LEADERS, FOR A LIFETIME OF SERVICE TO HIS COMMUNITY AND STATE, AND FOR HIS FAITHFUL WORK IN HELPING FORM THE "COMMITTEE OF 100" FOR THE LUTHERAN MEN IN MISSION UPON THE OCCASION OF ITS THIRTIETH ANNIVERSARY.

Whereas, Mr. Raymond Caughman is one of Lexington County's and the State of South Carolina's most respected business, civic, and church leaders; and

Whereas, he has tirelessly given of his time and resources to his God, family, community, and State; and

Whereas, Mr. Caughman is widely known as the retired chairman, president, and chief executive officer of the Lexington State Bank, and his numerous other business and civic endeavors and board memberships rank him as one of South Carolina's greatest leaders; and

Whereas, his success in business has afforded him the opportunity to greatly contribute time, talent, and financial resources to many needy and worthwhile causes, but the first use of his time has always been used to serve his church and his Lord; and

Whereas, Raymond Caughman is an active member of St. David's Lutheran Church and has been a driving force for Lutheran Men in Mission in South Carolina; and

Whereas, he was one of the prime movers in beginning the "Committee of 100" within that organization which will celebrate its thirtieth anniversary on May 2, 2006, the result of which is a fund that has supported numerous missions in South Carolina, funded startups for a number of mission congregations, and now also provides scholarships for students at the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia; and

Whereas, because of the accomplishments of this effort, South Carolina is respected as a leader in men's ministry and mission support throughout the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America; and

Whereas, he is a loving and faithful husband to his lovely wife, Lib, and proud father of three outstanding children and four delightful grandchildren to whom he is deeply devoted; and

Whereas, the members of the Senate of South Carolina would like to publicly recognize and thank this truly wonderful man for all his work in many capacities for the betterment of his community, state, and fellowman, and especially want to commend him for his faithful work in helping to found the "Committee of 100" for Lutheran Men in Mission upon the occasion of its thirtieth anniversary. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate commend Mr. Raymond Caughman of Lexington, one of South Carolina's most respected business, civic, and church leaders for a lifetime of service to his community and State, and for his faithful work in helping form the "Committee of 100" for the Lutheran Men in Mission upon the occasion of its thirtieth anniversary.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Raymond Caughman.
