A SENATE RESOLUTION

LAUDING THE STUDENTS, PARENTS, FACULTY, STAFF, AND ADMINISTRATORS OF GAFFNEY HIGH SCHOOL ON RECEIVING THE PRESTIGIOUS 2006 PALMETTO'S FINEST AWARD AND WISHING THEM MUCH CONTINUED SUCCESS IN THEIR ACADEMIC VENTURES.

Whereas, it is with great honor that the members of the Senate recognize Gaffney High School for its outstanding achievements, earning them the 2006 Carolina First Palmetto's Finest Award; and

Whereas, the South Carolina Association of School Administrators and Greenville-based Carolina First Bank annually recognize two elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school that have educators, students, parents, and supporters who are responsible for "innovative, effective educational programs"; and

Whereas, judges who recommend Palmetto's Finest winners take into account objective factors such as test scores and college admission offers, but also consider other, sometimes less recognizable factors, such as volunteerism; and

Whereas, each applicant school first completes a seventeen-page written statement detailing virtually every aspect of the school's operation, including staffing, curriculum, programs, resource, and community collaboration; and

Whereas, applicants are then visited by members of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators' Palmetto's Finest Awards Committee; and

Whereas, after the sixteen finalists are selected, each school undergoes a second visit from a different team of committee members, after which a selection meeting is held to determine the four winners; and

Whereas, runners-up in last year's competition, Principal Dr. Quincie Moore and one hundred and sixty Gaffney High School representatives attended the award ceremony held in the Koger Center in Columbia with the hopes of being recognized as the winner; and

Whereas, the school certainly understands the importance of a quality education and the ability of its students to learn. Such dedication is readily evident, as the administration, faculty, and surrounding community are more than willing to give their time, going above and beyond traditional classroom instruction to achieve their goals; and

Whereas, education at Gaffney High School expands the horizons of its students in an innovative and effective manner, serving as a shining example for schools throughout the State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, laud the efforts of the students, parents, faculty, staff, and administrators of Gaffney High School for winning the coveted 2006 Palmetto's Finest Award and wishing them much success in future academic endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Principal Dr. Quincie Moore of Gaffney High School.
