A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS SINCERE GRATITUDE AND FRIENDSHIP TO MS. JANET KEEFE EVANS FOR HER SERVICE TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND TO RECOGNIZE HER DEDICATION TO THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE, IN PARTICULAR, UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT, AND TO WISH HER MUCH DESERVED HAPPINESS AND GOOD HEALTH IN THE FUTURE.

Whereas, it is appropriate to recognize long-term employees of the State of South Carolina who dedicate their skills and expertise to the State for many years; and

Whereas, Ms. Janet Keefe Evans, a native of Lake City, is certainly a state employee worthy of such recognition having worked in many capacities in state government throughout her almost three decades of service. She began her career with the State as an office secretary at Busbee Middle School in Cayce where her organizational and personal skills quickly became apparent, and she was soon recruited to join Florence County Senators Thomas E. Smith and Hugh K. Leatherman as their secretary; and

Whereas, during her impressive twenty-five year tenure with the South Carolina Senate, she was also the administrative assistant to Senator Tom Smith, Chairman of the Invitations Committee; administrative assistant to the Judiciary Committee chaired by Senator Marshall B. Williams, President Pro Tempore; administrative assistant to Senator Alexander S. Macaulay, Chairman of the Medical Affairs Committee; secretary for Senators Greg Smith, Chauncey K. Gregory, Ernest L. Passailaigue, Jr., Lawrence K. Grooms, and John D. Hawkins; and administrative assistant to the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee; and

Whereas, Ms. Evans' educational background from Carolina College of Commerce Business School in Florence prepared her well to tackle the demands of a career in the legislative support arena. She is known not just for her superior organizational skills but also for her kind and caring nature, her patience, steady disposition, and wonderful sense of humor, and as a result, through the years she has been a tremendous asset to the South Carolina Senate; and

Whereas, in her multi-faceted legislative career, she has served as the first contact for members of the public and lobbyists alike, and she always made it a point to treat everyone with dignity and respect, regardless of their status or position. She will also be remembered fondly as a founding member and member in good standing of the Gressette Building's exclusive Fifth Floor Lunch Club and as advisor extraordinaire to Charlie Bradley of Bonneau; and

Whereas, as proud as she is of her service to her beloved State of South Carolina, Ms. Evans is prouder of her family: Cheryl and Brad Whittle, daughter and son-in-law; Mike and Kim Evans, son and daughter-in-law; and

Whereas, this committed and exceptional state employee is also even more dedicated to her grandchildren as she plans to devote much of her time when she retires to caring for and providing for their needs. Her sweet grandchildren are Parker and Graham Whittle and Bryce and Sydney Evans; and

Whereas, known for her family focus and abounding faith in God and His goodness, she finds the time in her busy life to be an active member of Springdale Baptist Church where she was the pianist for nearly twenty years. Her great love of music continues to lead her to volunteer as a pianist and organist in other churches as well; and

Whereas, Chairman Lawrence K. Grooms, members of the Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, and former and current staff of the committee will never forget the time and effort she put into her job and the countless kindnesses she extended each of them along the way; and

Whereas, adored by members and staff alike, her dedication, skills, warmth, respect, friendliness, and her vast institutional knowledge of the South Carolina Senate and state government, in general, will be greatly missed by all those privileged to know her. Her tireless efforts on behalf of the people of South Carolina may have been performed out of the spotlight but her efforts have not gone unnoticed and are much appreciated by her colleagues and friends in the Senate, in addition to the hundreds of constituents she has so ably assisted during her illustrious career; and

Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is pleased to extend its profound appreciation to this truly wonderful lady and extraordinary public servant for her outstanding service to the South Carolina Senate over the past twenty-five years and for her almost three decades of service in state government. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their sincere gratitude and friendship to Ms. Janet Keefe Evans for her service to the State of South Carolina and recognize her dedication to the South Carolina Senate, in particular, upon the occasion of her retirement, and wish her much deserved happiness and good health in the future.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ms. Janet Keefe Evans.
