A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR MS. FELICIA THELMA HAWKINS ELLIOTT OF GREENVILLE COUNTY FOR HER OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY SERVICE.

Whereas, Ms. Felicia Elliott was born in the Brutontown Community of Greenville, South Carolina and graduated from Sterling High School in 1945, before receiving a four-year scholarship to Knoxville College, Knoxville, Tennessee; and

Whereas, while at Knoxville College she majored in music and education and was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority; and

Whereas, after graduating college, Ms. Elliott taught music in public school, was a choral director, and worked with underprivileged youth. She later owned and operated The Elliott Community Care Home, a mental health facility in Columbia, South Carolina, for twelve years and played for numerous choirs in Columbia and Greenville, South Carolina; and

Whereas, to improve her community, Felicia worked with the Greenville County Sheriff's Department to assist in driving serious crime and drug problems out of the area; and

Whereas, she was also instrumental in getting the new Brutontown Community Center built and worked with the committee to get the first county redevelopment authority program to renovate homes and businesses in Brutontown; and

Whereas, recognizing the importance of providing new housing, Ms. Elliott was instrumental in getting the ten-million-dollar grant through the Greenville County Redevelopment Authority for a proposed subdivision; and

Whereas, helping to increase voter participation, she worked hard at registering people in the community to vote and also getting them out to vote on election day. She continues to work with elected officials on community projects; and

Whereas, strong in faith, Felicia is an active member of the Bruton Temple Baptist Church. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Ms. Felicia Thelma Hawkins Elliott of Greenville County for her outstanding community service.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ms. Felicia Thelma Hawkins Elliott.
