A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE STUDENTS, TEACHERS, ADMINISTRATORS, AND STAFF OF MIDWAY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN LEXINGTON, SOUTH CAROLINA, ON THEIR SCHOOL'S RECOGNITION AS A NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL FOR 2004.

Whereas, the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina is pleased to honor Midway Elementary School of Lexington School District One on its being named a National Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education; and

Whereas, the Blue Ribbon program gives national recognition to schools that excel in meeting local, state, and national goals in education; and

Whereas, the program recognizes excellence in the school environment, including leadership, quality teaching, parent and community support, and organizational vitality; and

Whereas, under the leadership of Principal Margaret Mitchum, the faculty and staff have consistently demonstrated their commitment to excellence and their love of the students of Midway Elementary and their families; and

Whereas, the school's motto of "making a difference for every student" served Principal Mitchum and the teachers of Midway well as they worked so tirelessly towards making their school a model elementary school resulting in the ultimate honor of their school being named a National Blue Ribbon School; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the South Carolina General Assembly pauses to recognize and honor Midway Elementary School on its outstanding educational efforts. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the students, teachers, administrators, and staff of Midway Elementary School in Lexington, South Carolina, on their school's recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School for 2004.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Midway Elementary School and Principal Margaret Mitchum.
