VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 23-47-35 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT EACH LOCAL GOVERNMENT OR JURISDICTION IN THIS STATE OPERATING AN EMERGENCY "911" SYSTEM MUST HAVE THE CAPABILITY OF ANSWERING CALLS IN SPANISH WITH THE SAME RESPONSE TIME AS CALLS ANSWERED IN ENGLISH.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Chapter 47, Title 23 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 23-47-35. Each local government or jurisdiction in this State operating an emergency '911' system must have the capability of answering calls in Spanish with the same response time as calls answered in English."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect January 1, 2006..
