A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE GEORGE WESLEY JONES II OF GREELEYVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA, ON THE OCCASION OF HIS ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO HIM FOR CONTINUED GOOD HEALTH AND HAPPINESS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are delighted to learn that George Wesley Jones II of Greeleyville will celebrate his one hundredth birthday on May 13, 2005; and

Whereas, born on May 13, 1905, in the Foreston community of Clarendon County, Mr. Jones is the son of the late Reverend George Wesley Jones I and Julia Simon Jones and the stepson of Rachael Bennet Jones; and

Whereas, part of a large and loving family, he is the brother of Henry Jones, John Jones, Benjamin Jones, Minn Jones, Emma Jones Dukes Patterson, Samuel Jones, and Foger Jones Watson; and

Whereas, George Jones was the devoted husband of the late Marie Nedd who departed this life in November of 1995, and together they were blessed with five children: Julia Jones Davis, Thaddeus Jones, the late Mable Jones, George Wesley Jones III, and Jonathan Jones; and

Whereas, Mr. Jones is also adored by and is proud to boast eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, his formal education was obtained from Hunter Elementary School in Williamsburg County, and he later made farming his life's work; and

Whereas, this hardworking farmer and family man was and continues to be a prominent and active member of Wilson United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee; and

Whereas, a member of the Pride of Foreston Masonic Lodge No. 296, Mr. Jones has also been active throughout his lifetime in many other local community organizations; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives pause to reflect on the rich life of George Wesley Jones II, a lifelong resident of Greeleyville, and join with his family members and many friends in wishing him a most happy one hundredth birthday. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor and recognize George Wesley Jones II of Greeleyville, South Carolina, on the occasion of his one hundredth birthday and to extend best wishes to him for continued good health and happiness.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to George Wesley Jones II.
