A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE SOUTH AIKEN HIGH SCHOOL BOYS SOCCER TEAM ON ITS IMPRESSIVE CLASS AAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, AND TO HONOR THE PLAYERS AND THEIR COACH, PAUL WATERS, ON A TRULY EXCEPTIONAL SEASON.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were pleased to learn that the South Aiken High School Boys Soccer Team won the Class AAAA State Championship title by defeating two-time defending champions Irmo High School 1-0 in the finals held at the University of South Carolina's Stone Stadium; and

Whereas, while both teams fought tooth-and-nail for the win, South Aiken All-State junior forward Jamal Geathers scored the only goal of the game four minutes and five seconds into the first half, leaving Irmo High School hungry to at least tie the score; and

Whereas, the Irmo High School team put up a great competitive effort in narrowly missing four goals blocked by senior goalkeeper and future University of South Carolina player Mike Gustavson, who fiercely protected his goal in a second-half Irmo onslaught; and

Whereas, the Class AAAA State Championship marks the first-ever state soccer title for the school and region as a whole; and

Whereas, under the able leadership of Head Coach Paul Waters, the South Aiken Thoroughbreds brought deserved credit not only upon themselves and their school, but also upon the greater community and county as well; and

Whereas, the team finished its incredible season with a 23-1-1 record, pouring countless hours of blood, sweat, and effort into a season that will forever be close to their hearts; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and congratulate this group of talented young men upon the occasion of their winning the truly deserved championship. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the South Aiken High School Boys Soccer Team on its impressive Class AAAA State Championship title, and honor the players and their coach, Paul Waters, on a truly exceptional season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the South Aiken High School Boys Soccer Team.
