A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE RAYMOND FELTON OF LATTA, SOUTH CAROLINA, FOR HIS MANY OUTSTANDING BASKETBALL ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS A HIGH SCHOOL ALL AMERICAN AT LATTA HIGH SCHOOL AND AS A COLLEGIATE ALL AMERICAN AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AND TO EXTEND HIM EVERY BEST WISH AS HE EXPLORES THE POSSIBILITY OF CONTINUING HIS BASKETBALL CAREER AS A PROFESSIONAL PLAYER IN THE NATIONAL BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION.

Whereas, Raymond Felton is a 6'1" 198 pound athlete with tremendous physical skills who is a native of Latta, South Carolina, and attended Latta High School; and

Whereas, while at Latta High School he was named the Naismith Award winner by the Atlanta Tipoff Club as the 2002 National High School Player of the Year, led Latta to back-to-back state championships, had a 104-9 record in his high school career, was twice named the Mr. Basketball winner in South Carolina, and established the state career scoring record with 2,992 points; and

Whereas, after graduating from Latta High School he chose to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he became an All American point guard and was a key member of the starting five of North Carolina's 2005 National College Athletic Association Division I championship team; and

Whereas, although a junior, his career statistics include being second in Tar Heel history in assists per game, being fourth in North Carolina history in steals per game, and being selected as the Tar Heels Most Valuable Player as a freshman, as a first team All-ACC Tournment member, and as a 2005 second team Associated Press All American; and

Whereas, this outstanding athlete has indicated his desire to explore the possibility of becoming a professional basketball player with the National Basketball Association; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and congratulate this native son of South Carolina for his truly outstanding high school and college career, for his accomplishments on the basketball court and in the classroom, and for being a role model that all young fans of basketball would like to emulate. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives congratulate Raymond Felton of Latta, South Carolina, for his many outstanding basketball accomplishments as a high school All American at Latta High School and as a collegiate All American at the University of North Carolina and extend him every best wish as he explores the possibility of continuing his basketball career as a professional player in the National Basketball Association.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Raymond Felton.
