A HOUSE RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING AND HONORING LAURA BEAUVAIS-GODWIN FOR HER DEDICATION AND SERVICE ASSISTING COUPLES AND PLACING CHILDREN IN CARING HOMES THROUGH HER CAROLINA HOPE CHRISTIAN ADOPTION AGENCY, AND WISHING HER CONTINUED SUCCESS IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, through the vision and commitment of Laura Beauvais-Godwin hundreds of children in great need of a loving and caring home have been placed with nurturing parents; and

Whereas, Mrs. Beauvais-Godwin, is the beloved wife of Raymond W. Godwin. The couple are the proud and loving parents of two daughters, Erika and Elizabeth; and

Whereas, Mrs. Beauvais-Godwin took a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics in 1978 at Bob Jones University and went on to attain her Masters of Public Health Degree in 1983 from the University of South Carolina; and

Whereas, Mrs. Beauvais-Godwin worked from 1985 to 1988 as a health-education specialist at Rutgers University where she developed and managed health-education programs in the area of nutritional health, oversaw health education at satellite campuses, and hired, managed, and trained peer educators; and

Whereas, she worked for the South Carolina Department of Social Services from 1995-1999 where she served as an adoption specialist and consultant assisting in the placement of children in the foster-care system. She also conducted home studies and preadoption group training for adoptive couples and volunteered for the Guardian ad Litem program representing children for the Department of Social Services in court; and

Whereas, in addition to her volunteer work in the Guardian ad Litem program of the Department of Social Services from 1994 to 1996, Mrs. Beauvais-Godwin has previously served with distinction as chairperson of the Training Committee of the Junior League of Central New Jersey from 1990 to 1993 and in 1988 to 1996 served as cofounder and copresident of Resolve of South Carolina, where she organized workshops and training for professionals and members; and

Whereas, in 1997 she authored The Complete Adoption Book, an indispensable guide, the third edition of which is due out in November, 2005; and

Whereas, in 1998 Mrs. Beauvais-Godwin founded and undertook the post of director of the Carolina Hope Christian Adoption Agency, where she oversees all international and domestic adoptions in the agency's work in completing more than four hundred adoptions, providing home-study services, pre and post-adoption workshops, training sessions, including in these sessions a broad range of issues, especially as related to children with special needs and interracial/ethnic placement; and

Whereas, in furtherance of her profession, she serves as president of the South Carolina Association of Licensed Adoption Agencies, where she works assisting licensed adoption agencies to navigate the myriad of state and federal standards, laws, and credential requirements; and

Whereas, Mrs. Beauvais-Godwin's accomplishments will continue to pay dividends for the children and parents she assists well into the future. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Laura Beauvais-Godwin for her dedication and service assisting couples and placing children in caring homes through her Carolina Hope Christian Adoption Agency and her tireless work as an adoption professional, and wish her continued success in all her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Laura Beauvais-Godwin.
