VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 57-3-618 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION MUST IMPOSE AND COLLECT A TOLL ALONG THE PROPOSED INTERSTATE 73 UPON COMPLETION OF THIS HIGHWAY PROJECT TO BE USED TO PAY FOR THE COST OF PLANNING, RIGHT OF WAY ACQUISITIONS, FINANCING, CONSTRUCTION, AND OTHER EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS PROJECT, AND FOR THE REMOVAL OF THE TOLLS UPON PAYMENT OF ALL SUCH COSTS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Title 57, Chapter 3, Article 7 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 57-3-618. Notwithstanding another provision of law, the Department of Transportation must impose and collect a toll at one point east and one point west of Interstate 95 along the proposed Interstate 73 corridor upon completion of this highway project. This toll must be used to pay for the cost of planning, right of way acquisitions, financing, construction, and other expenses associated with this project, and for the removal of the tolls upon payment of all such costs."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
