A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND RECOGNIZE THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA AIKEN PACERS GOLF TEAM FOR ITS IMPRESSIVE WIN OF THE 2005 NCAA DIVISION II MEN'S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP AND TO HONOR THE PLAYERS AND THEIR COACH, MICHAEL CARLISLE, ON AN EXCEPTIONAL SEASON.

Whereas, no stranger to the taste of victory, the University of South Carolina Aiken Pacers capped their outstanding season this year by capturing the 2005 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship. The 2005 title marks the second consecutive national championship win for the golf team; and

Whereas, excellence in golf demands individual strength, agility, and skill, as well as team play and good sportsmanship; and

Whereas, using those talents and attributes, Coach Michael Carlisle and the USC Aiken Pacers showed both fans and foes that last year's national championship win was no fluke, winning eleven out of thirteen tournaments before earning the ultimate prize; and

Whereas, despite windy, damp conditions and no scoreboards along the course to show the players their progress, the Pacers showed incredible confidence and focus throughout the entire final tournament, edging out their rival, the Armstrong Atlantic State Pirates, by a single stroke in each of the last two rounds; and

Whereas, though the Pacers were kept in suspense as to the final outcome of the tournament for fifteen minutes after the final hole, their victory was nonetheless sweet, as the players doused coach Michael Carlisle with a cooler of ice water in celebration; and

Whereas, seniors Scott Brown of North Augusta and Dane Burkhart of Aiken brought further recognition to the team by being named to the All-America team; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives takes great pride in recognizing the young men of the University of South Carolina Aiken Pacers Golf Team for their determination and perseverance in achieving both in the classroom and on the golf course, and expects to hear of great accomplishments in the seasons to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and recognize the University of South Carolina Aiken Pacers Golf Team for its impressive win of the 2005 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship, and honor the players and their coach, Michael Carlisle, on an exceptional season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the University of South Carolina Aiken Pacers Golf Team.
