A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND THE STUDENT COUNCIL OF WARE SHOALS HIGH SCHOOL FOR THE OUTSTANDING GENEROSITY THE STUDENTS EXHIBITED IN SUPPORTING SEVERAL CHARITABLE CAUSES AND TO RECOGNIZE THEM AS A STELLAR EXAMPLE OF PHILANTHROPY.

Whereas, the Student Council of Ware Shoals High School in Ware Shoals raised a total of $12,553.71 during the first semester of the 2005-06 school year; and

Whereas, as one of the poorest school districts in this State, the students of Ware Shoals were able to look beyond themselves and open their hearts and wallets to the aid of others; and

Whereas, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the students were mindful of those who were affected by the devastation, and, through donations from fellow students and members of the community, they were able to contribute $2,738.94 to the American Red Cross; and

Whereas, in addition to the amount donated to the American Red Cross, the students were able to give $500 to two hurricane evacuees attending Ware Shoals High School; and

Whereas, not stopping with hurricane relief, the Ware Shoals High School Student Council raised $9,314.77 for their Christmas for Kids Campaign. With the money, they purchased Christmas gifts for needy children in the area; and

Whereas, the General Assembly is proud to praise such outstanding young people, and the compassion and benevolence of the students of Ware Shoals High School and the entire Ware Shoals community are to be applauded. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend the Student Council of Ware Shoals High School for the outstanding generosity the students exhibited in supporting several charitable causes and recognize the students as a stellar example of philanthropy.
