Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are pleased to learn that St. Bartholomew's Parish will be celebrating its three hundredth anniversary this year; and

Whereas, in 1706, St. Bartholomew's Parish was one of the ten parishes established in Coastal Carolina by the Colonial Assembly; and

Whereas, the parishes became the basic unit for local government and had civil as well as ecclesiastical responsibilities, and became the official government from 1706 until the American Revolution; and

Whereas, beginning with the establishment of colonial St. Bartholomew's Parish in 1706, and continuing to present day Colleton County, much historical importance has occurred between the Edisto and Combahee Rivers in the Lowcountry of South Carolina; and

Whereas, the events have been designed to help all citizens gain greater awareness of and appreciation for the county's history, including its special role in the overall history of the United States; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, would like to encourage interested citizens to attend as many of these events as possible because these events will enrich each citizen's sense of cultural kinship with other citizens and bring all citizens of this wonderful community together. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
