TO HONOR KRISTEN LAFFLER OF GREENVILLE COUNTY FOR HER OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO HER COMMUNITY IN VOLUNTEERISM, AND TO CONGRATULATE HER FOR RECEIVING A PRESTIGIOUS PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARD IN RECOGNITION OF THE WORK SHE HAS DONE IN BENEFITING THE LIVES OF OTHERS.
Whereas, Kristen Laffler of Greer has brought great pride to her family and community in achieving national recognition for exemplary volunteer service by receiving a 2006 Prudential Spirit of Community Award; and
Whereas, this impressive award, presented by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, honors young volunteers across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to serving their communities; and
Whereas, the Eastside High School senior earned this award by generously giving of her time and energy in numerous capacities, always considering others' needs before her own; and
Whereas, among her activities in promoting safe driving, she created a Web site that provides information, tips, and advice to encourage good driving habits by teenagers after a good friend died in a car accident; and
Whereas, in addition to constantly updating her Web site (www.teensdrivingsafe.com), Kristin promotes safe driving through the news media, by speaking to student groups, and by lobbying on behalf of safe-driving legislation; and
Whereas, the success of the State of South Carolina, the strength of our individual communities, and the overall vitality of our nation depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of young people like Kristen Laffler who use their considerable talents and resources to serve others. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor Kristen Laffler of Greenville County for her outstanding contributions to her community in volunteerism, and congratulate her for receiving a prestigious Prudential Spirit of Community Award in recognition of the work she has done in benefiting the lives of others.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Kristen Laffler.
