VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO COMMEND THE REVEREND ROY NELSON PEA OF CAPITAL HEIGHTS, MARYLAND, AND FORMERLY OF SOUTH CAROLINA, FOR A LIFETIME OF SERVICE TO HIS FELLOW MAN AND ESPECIALLY TO THOSE LESS FORTUNATE THROUGH COUNTLESS ACTS OF KINDNESS AND SERVICE.
Whereas, the Reverend Roy Nelson Pea is a minister currently residing in Capital Heights, Maryland, who has over his lifetime performed many acts of service to those in our society who are hungry, sick, or in need; and
Whereas, this wonderful Man of God during his career has followed in the footsteps of one of his role models, Dr. George Washington Carver of the Tuskegee Institute; and
Whereas, a few of the many examples of service to his fellow man include his founding of the Division of Psalm Baptist Church in Maryland in 1981 which he continues to serve today, feeding the homeless during the holidays in Washington, D. C. since 2000 together with his devoted wife, Juanita, and speaking throughout the eastern and southeastern United States whenever asked including speaking engagements in South Carolina, Maryland, and Virginia; and
Whereas, for three years Reverend Pea volunteered at the Great Oaks Center, Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Program in Silver Springs, Maryland, where he prepared Saturday programs for the residents, and he was appointed by Governor William Donald Schaffer of Maryland to the advisory board of the Great Oaks Center; and
Whereas, he attended Midwood Elementary School in Greer, Allen View Junior High School in Reidville, and Lincoln High School in Fairforest, South Carolina. He also holds a Bachelor of Science and Agriculture degree from South Carolina State University; and
Whereas, for thirty-four years he worked for the United States Department of Agriculture in Beltsville, Maryland, and he received several awards for his work in agricultural research and improvement; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to pause in their deliberations to publicly recognize and thank this wonderful minister, humanitarian, and agricultural researcher for all he has done to improve the lives of so many people. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly commend the Reverend Roy Nelson Pea of Capital Heights, Maryland, and formerly of South Carolina, for a lifetime of service to his fellow man and especially to those less fortunate through countless acts of kindness and service.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Reverend Roy Nelson Pea.
