A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND TOM FAZIO, ONE OF THE UNITED STATES' MOST RESPECTED AND WELL-KNOWN GOLF COURSE DESIGNERS, FOR AN UNPARALLELED CAREER THAT HAS MADE HIM INTERNATIONALLY FAMOUS.

Whereas, throughout his forty years in golf course design, Tom Fazio and his staff of talented designers have been recognized for creating award-winning courses throughout the United States; and

Whereas, no living designer has more credits on the "Golf Digest" list of America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses and the "Golfweek" collection of America's Best; and

Whereas, the "Golf Digest" poll for Best Modern Day Golf Course Architect was discontinued after Tom Fazio claimed the award three consecutive times, and he has also received the Old Tom Morris Award from the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America; and

Whereas, South Carolina has always been a special place to him and, except for Florida, he has designed more golf courses in South Carolina than in any other state; and

Whereas, Tom first came to South Carolina over thirty years ago, while working with his Uncle George in designing Palmetto Dunes on Hilton Head. He returned a few years later for one of his very first solo efforts and Wild Dunes on the Isle of Palms helped to launch him into the national spotlight; and

Whereas, from the Lowcountry to the Upstate, South Carolina offers some of the most diverse environments in the country, and Mr. Fazio has happily returned to South Carolina over twenty times to design some of the best golf courses throughout the State; and

Whereas, recent notable courses include Sage Valley in Aiken, Berkeley Hall in Bluffton, and The Cliffs at Keowee Vineyards in Pickens; and

Whereas, he is also a benefactor of various children's charities throughout South Carolina such as the South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation and several local chapters of the Boys and Girls Club; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to recognize and honor one of golf's premier course designers for a distinguished career that has benefited South Carolina in so many ways. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly recognize and commend Tom Fazio, one of the United States' most respected and well-known golf course designers, for an unparalleled career that has made him internationally famous.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Tom Fazio.
