A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND COMMEND MITSY BALLENTINE, THE BELOVED MOTHER OF OUR ESTEEMED COLLEAGUE, REPRESENTATIVE NATHAN BALLENTINE, FOR HER OUTSTANDING SERVICE FOR OVER THIRTY YEARS TO GREENVILLE TECHNICAL COLLEGE UPON HER RETIREMENT AND TO WISH HER THE BEST OF HEALTH AND MUCH HAPPINESS IN HER RETIREMENT AS SHE ENJOYS MORE TIME WITH HER ADORED GRANDCHILDREN SARAH, J. C., AND EMMA.

Whereas, Mitsy Elizabeth Ballentine has served with distinction since 1973 at Greenville Technical College, and is retiring May 10, 2006, from her position as an Office Systems Technology Instructor in Information Technology; and

Whereas, Mrs. Ballentine received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business at Winthrop College and went on to obtain her Master of Education Degree at the University of South Carolina; and

Whereas, throughout her career at Greenville Tech, Mrs. Ballentine has taught numerous business courses and has developed ever changing curricula and courses as well as having conducted various workshops and seminars for business and industry, including programs for Fluor Daniel and the Chamber of Commerce; and

Whereas, having begun her career at Greenville Technical College thirty-three years ago, Professor Ballentine has brought her thousands of students through myriad technological advances from beginning typing to machine transcription and information management and from traditional classroom teaching to telecast and online classes - geometric growth in technology one may never have imagined in the early 1970's; and

Whereas, Mrs. Ballentine met these challenges, as she does in all aspects of her life, with a positive, forward-looking approach and a quest and love of knowledge; and

Whereas, in addition to her many teaching responsibilities, Mrs. Ballentine has been an active member of several professional organizations, including the South Carolina Business Education Association, Southern Business Education Association, National Business Education Association, and the South Carolina Technical Education Association; and

Whereas, Mrs. Ballentine, a master in her craft and a greatly admired and respected professor and colleague, has inspired students for over three decades and her gift of imparting knowledge and her talents in teaching are not only revered among her students, but she has also been honored and recognized by her peers. She was a Region III finalist in 1996 for the National Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs Professor of the Year for the Nation; in 1999 she was chosen "Teacher of the Year" by Phi Theta Kappa honor society at Greenville Technical College, and in 2000 was chosen for Who's Who among America's Teachers; and

Whereas, Mrs. Ballentine has been a great asset to Greenville Tech and is an instructor, colleague, and friend whose many contributions, superior teaching, and wise counsel will be greatly missed by all; and

Whereas, the devoted wife of Dennis Ballentine and the adored grandmother of Sarah, J. C., and Emma, Mrs. Ballentine's retirement will be filled with great joy and family activities; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the members of the South Carolina General Assembly pause in their deliberations to recognize the distinguished career and substantial contributions of Mrs. Mitsy Elizabeth Ballentine, one of South Carolina's outstanding daughters and the dear mother of one of our own, the Honorable Nathan Ballentine. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, honor and commend Mitsy Ballentine, the beloved mother of our esteemed colleague, Representative Nathan Ballentine, for her outstanding service for over thirty years to Greenville Technical College upon her retirement and wish her the best of health and much happiness in her retirement as she enjoys more time with her adored grandchildren Sarah, J. C., and Emma.
