A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE MR. HASHAM PAUL KHOURY OF RICHLAND COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HIS NINETIETH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HIM A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MANY MORE YEARS OF GOOD HEALTH, HAPPINESS, AND JOY.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to learn that Mr. Hasham Paul Khoury, will celebrate his ninetieth birthday on July 22, 2006; and

Whereas, Hasham Khoury is the son of the late Norman and Marie Khoury and is originally from Beirut, Lebanon. He came to the United States through Ellis Island, New York, unable to speak any English and moved to South Carolina later in life; and

Whereas, he married the late Rosa Sabbagha Khoury and is the proud father of six wonderful children, Norman, Linda, Eddie, George, Paula, John, and daughter, Diana, who unfortunately has already passed on; and

Whereas, Mr. Khoury is an active member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, serving on various boards and committees. He has made many contributions to the church and was honored to have an audience with Pope John Paul II in 1987; and

Whereas, Mr. Khoury is a truly amazing man of courage and conviction who has devoted his life to his church, family, and community and who, throughout his life, has been sustained by the power of prayer and faith; and

Whereas, when family and friends gather to celebrate his ninetieth birthday, the celebration will reflect on and honor his life which embodies the American tradition of faith, hard work, and accomplishment; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the members of the South Carolina General Assembly pause to reflect on the rich life of Mr. Khoury and join with his family members and many friends in wishing him a most happy birthday. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly honor and recognize Mr. Hasham Paul Khoury of Richland County on the occasion of his ninetieth birthday and wish him a joyous birthday celebration and many more years of good health, happiness, and joy.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Khoury.
