VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND DIVA GIRLZ, INC., A SOUTH CAROLINA COMPANY ORGANIZED FOR THE EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN AND ITS FOUNDER, MS. WOODEENA (DINA) CURRY, FOR ALL THEIR TRULY WONDERFUL EFFORTS IN AIDING AND ASSISTING VICTIMS OF HURRICANE KATRINA WHO HAVE RELOCATED TO SOUTH CAROLINA.
Whereas, Diva Girlz, Inc., is an empowerment organization for women that gives women a chance to build relationships of support and break destructive cycles of domestic abuse, poverty, addiction, and other social ills; and
Whereas, Mrs. Woodeena (Dina) Curry founded this vibrant company in October 2004 which is headquartered in Columbia; and
Whereas, as part of its outreach program, participants in Diva Girlz gave and are giving outstanding aid and assistance to victims of Hurricane Katrina who have relocated to South Carolina; and
Whereas, one example of this assistance occurred on March 11, 2006, when Diva Girlz, Inc., together with approximately ten evacuees who had been relocated to South Carolina went to Yonkers, New York, to receive donations for Katrina victims solicited on their behalf by concerned individuals and community organizations in Yonkers and Westchester County, New York, who partnered with the Yonkers YWCA; and
Whereas, these wonderful unselfish acts of helping others in need have brought deserving credit not only upon Diva Girlz and its founder but upon our community and State as well; and
Whereas, Diva Girlz' actions have been recognized by several community and governmental organizations, and the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, are desirous of and thanking all those associated with this fine organization who did so much to help our friends and neighbors who were displaced by Hurricane Katrina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly recognize and commend Diva Girlz, Inc., a South Carolina company organized for the empowerment of women and its founder, Ms. Woodeena (Dina) Curry, for all their truly wonderful efforts in aiding and assisting victims of Hurricane Katrina who have relocated to South Carolina.
