VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE MRS. E. MITCHELL LEBBY OF BARNWELL COUNTY FOR HER MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE IN EDUCATING THE YOUNG STUDENTS OF BLACKVILLE DISTRICT NUMBER NINETEEN, HER LONG TENURE AS AN EDUCATIONAL MENTOR TO THE CITIZENS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, AND HER UNMATCHED RECORD OF COMMUNITY SERVICE.
Whereas, it is with great pleasure that we recognize individuals who are dedicated to giving their time and energy to the educational development of the citizens of South Carolina; and
Whereas, Mrs. Lebby is the wife of Clarence V. Lebby, Sr. and proud mother of three children; Clarence V. Lebby, Jr., Leroy Lebby, and Gloria Lebby; and
Whereas, she graduated from the High School Department of Claflin College before later earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Claflin; and
Whereas, Mrs. Lebby furthered her education by receiving a Master of Science Degree from South Carolina State College and then continued her studies at Johnson C. Smith University, the University of South Carolina, and Georgia State University; and
Whereas, Mrs. Lebby is best known by others as an educational mentor, teacher, friend, wife, mother and role model; and
Whereas, Mrs. Lebby was the first librarian of Denmark Technical College when it opened as South Carolina Area Trade School at Denmark in 1948, and subsequently served with distinction as a middle school principal from Blackville District Number Nineteen, a post from which she has retired; and
Whereas, in a long career of devotion to public and community service in addition to her duties as an educator, she has been a member of Barnwell County Department of Social Services Board, Museum Board, Historical Society, Mental Health Association, Tech PrepTri-County Board, Arts Council, NAACP, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, American Legion Auxiliary, Sigma Tau Delta Honor Society, Household of Ruth, both the State and National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association, and served as Senior Choir Organist for many years at Bethlehem and Second Baptist Church; and
Whereas, her accomplishments have been recognized by her receipt of the Education Foundation Award, and a Presidential Citation from Morris College. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor and recognize Mrs. E. Mitchell Lebby of Barnwell County for her many years of outstanding service in educating the young students of Blackville District Number Nineteen, her long tenure as an educational mentor to the citizens of South Carolina, and her unmatched record of community service.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. E. Mitchell Lebby.
