A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE MELISSA REYNOLDS SMITH, SECOND GRADE TEACHER AT WATEREE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN KERSHAW COUNTY, UPON BEING NAMED THE 2005-2006 KERSHAW COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT TEACHER OF THE YEAR, AND TO EXTEND SINCERE APPRECIATION FOR HER OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP AND MANY CONTRIBUTIONS TO EDUCATION IN SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are delighted to learn that Wateree Elementary School second grade teacher Melissa Reynolds Smith was named the Kershaw County School District Teacher of the Year for 2005-2006; and

Whereas, she graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in Elementary Education, and she graduated from Francis Marion University with a Master of Education in Instructional Accommodations; and

Whereas, Melissa's concern and commitment to providing her students with the best education possible is shown through her active participation as a member of the Kershaw County Reading Association, the South Carolina Teachers of Mathematics, and the Palmetto State Teachers Association; and

Whereas, she encourages each one of her students to do their best, overcomes the challenges new students bring each year, and finds greatness inside every child that comes into her classroom; and

Whereas, Melissa works extremely hard at improving the social, emotional, and educational needs of each student in her class; and

Whereas, her passion and enjoyment for teaching combined with her unique style that utilizes current as well as tried and true methods of instruction creates a fun and exciting environment for the students to learn and grasp vital concepts necessary to develop and expand their youthful minds; and

Whereas, Melissa's bubbly personality emanates to her students and co-workers, motivating everyone to perform to the best of their ability, and she also makes every student in her classroom feel as if he or she is the most important person in the room; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are proud to honor Melissa Reynolds Smith for demonstrating the personal and teaching qualities that help mold and train the youth of South Carolina to become successful future leaders in our community. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate Melissa Reynolds Smith, a second grade teacher at Wateree Elementary School in Kershaw County, upon being named the 2005-2006 Kershaw County School District Teacher of the Year, and extend sincere appreciation for her outstanding leadership and many contributions to education in South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Melissa Reynolds Smith.
