A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE THE BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN OF COLLETON COUNTY WHO HAVE SERVED IN DEFENSE OF OUR NATION, AND JOIN THE CITIZENS OF COLLETON COUNTY AS THEY CELEBRATE THE GRAND OPENING OF THE VETERANS VICTORY HOUSE NURSING HOME IN THE CITY OF WALTERBORO.

Whereas, from 1917 to 1918, servicemen from Colleton County responded to the call of duty as this nation liberated the European continent during World War I. Thirty-two Colletonians paid the supreme sacrifice in defense of this nation during World War I; and

Whereas, from 1941 to 1945, servicemen from Colleton County responded again to the call of duty as World War II spread around the globe. Fifty-seven Colletonians lost their lives during World War II; and

Whereas, from 1950 to 1953 as the winds of war swept the Korean peninsula, servicemen from Colleton County responded to this challenge with ten Colletonians paying the supreme sacrifice; and

Whereas, from 1964 to 1975, servicemen from Colleton County served on the front lines in the jungles of Vietnam where ten Colletonians lost their lives; and

Whereas, in 1990, the citizens of Colleton County erected a memorial in the heart of the City of Walterboro at the Downtown Plaza which honors the brave servicemen from Colleton County who lost their lives during these wars; and

Whereas, since the Vietnam War, the United States has declared war on terrorism with residents of Colleton County serving on the front lines of this battle. In 1983 two Colletonians paid the supreme sacrifice as their barracks in Beirut, Lebanon succumbed to a suicide bomber; and

Whereas, it has come to the attention of the members of the General Assembly that the citizens of Colleton County again will honor the brave servicemen and servicewomen who have placed their lives on the line in defense of the freedoms that we cherish in this country as they celebrate the grand opening of the Veterans Victory House Nursing Home; and

Whereas, it is fitting and proper for the members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations to honor these brave soldiers on this occasion. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize the brave men and women who have served in the military in defense of our great nation, and join the citizens of Colleton County as they celebrate the grand opening of the Veterans Victory House Nursing Home in the City of Walterboro.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Veterans Victory House Nursing Home in Walterboro.
