A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND COMMEND OFFICER TIMOTHY GREENE, OF YORK COUNTY, FOR HIS OUTSTANDING BRAVERY AND HEROISM IN PROTECTING SOUTH CAROLINIANS FROM ARMED AND DANGEROUS CRIMINALS AS A POLICE OFFICER, AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS IN HIS LAW ENFORCEMENT CAREER.

Whereas, it is with great pride that the House of Representatives honors those individuals who put themselves in the line of fire in order to protect our neighbors, families, and friends; and

Whereas, Officer Timothy Greene of the Rock Hill Police Department showed exceptional courage and selflessness when he responded to a citizen's cry for help during a robbery of an area Bank of America branch; and

Whereas, immediately investigating at the scene of the crime, Officer Greene took information from bank employees and began chasing the fleeing suspect in his patrol car; and

Whereas, when Officer Greene activated his blue lights and approached the suspect's car, the suspect began shooting at Officer Greene, showering his patrol car with at least six rounds that struck the windshield, shattering the glass and injuring his face; and

Whereas, despite suffering extensive injuries, Officer Greene continued to pursue the suspect without hesitation and provided other officers with clear and concise details of the event; and

Whereas, one mile later, the suspect pulled over in a business parking lot and again began firing at Officer Greene, striking the patrol car several more times before returning to his vehicle once again; and

Whereas, Officer Greene continued to pursue the suspect, stopping several more times only to be shot at by the suspect over twenty more times; and

Whereas, when responding officers came to Officer Greene's aid, the suspect lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a gate at a trash dump convenience center. After fleeing from his car and making an unsuccessful attempt at a car jacking, the suspect returned to his vehicle to retrieve his assault rifle and began pointing it at the officers; and

Whereas, the intense chase and shoot-out was eventually terminated with the death of the suspect; and

Whereas, Officer Timothy Greene displayed remarkable composure throughout the incident, remaining calm and courageous despite injury; and

Whereas, the York County community and South Carolina as a whole are fortunate to have Officer Timothy Greene patrolling our streets, assuring that citizens are safe, and that justice comes to bear upon criminal suspects; and

Whereas, the actions of this brave law enforcement officer have brought deserved credit not only upon him and his department, but upon his community and State as well. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor and commend Officer Timothy Greene, of York County, for his outstanding bravery in protecting South Carolinians from armed and dangerous criminals as a police officer, and wish him continued success in his law enforcement career.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Officer Timothy Greene.
