A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE MRS. MARY REUBEN OF RICHLAND COUNTY FOR HER OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO HER FAMILY AND COMMUNITY AND TO HONOR HER ON MOTHER'S DAY, MAY 14, 2006.

Whereas, Mrs. Mary Reuben of Richland County was born on October 30, 1934, in Furman, Alabama. She is a daughter of the late Tessie Lee Murphy and Zeb Murphy, and she and her brother, Zeb Murphy Jr., are the last living siblings of her large and loving family; and

Whereas, a devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Reuben shares a loving marriage with her husband, Willie Frank. She is the loving mother to Ronald Charles and she is proud to boast two grandchildren; and

Whereas, strong in faith and heart, Mrs. Reuben has been a steadfast member of New Ebenezer Baptist Church for over thirty years, where she shares her mellifluous voice with the congregation as a member of the Jubilee Choir; and

Whereas, Mrs. Reuben came to New Ebenezer Baptist Church after having worshipped at Gaines Chapel AME Church in Furman, Alabama; and

Whereas, a shining example of great faith and courage, Mrs. Reuben's favorite scripture verse is Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and do not lean unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths"; and

Whereas, Mrs. Reuben was also a dedicated state employee who unselfishly gave of her time, talents, and considerable energy, while working at the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control for twenty-three years until her retirement in 1999; and

Whereas, in her retirement she enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, reading, gardening, and attending church; and

Whereas, Mrs. Reuben has dedicated her entire life to loving and caring for her friends and family. This lovely and talented South Carolina lady serves as a role model for all, and it is most appropriate that the House of Representatives pauses to honor her on Mother's Day, in particular, for all she has contributed to her community and family. Certainly, Mrs. Mary Reuben's kind, generous, and gentle spirit continues to touch the lives of so many. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize Mrs. Mary Reuben of Richland County for her outstanding contributions to her family and community and honor her on Mother's Day, May 14, 2006.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Mary Reuben of Richland County.
