TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND CHIEF WARRANT OFFICER-4 FREDERICK JENKINS FOR TWENTY-SEVEN YEARS OF HEROIC SERVICE IN THE UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS AND TO HONOR HIM ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FOR PROUDLY DEFENDING HIS COUNTRY IN TIME OF NEED.

Whereas, servicemen of the United States Marine Corps proudly dedicate their lives to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, both foreign and domestic; and

Whereas, Chief Warrant Officer-4 Frederick Jenkins served twenty-seven years as a United States Marine protecting the freedom of the citizens of the United States of America; and

Whereas, born in Savannah, Georgia, in 1963, Jenkins was raised in Estill, South Carolina, where he grew into an honorable South Carolinian; and

Whereas, he enlisted into the Marine Corp on June 30, 1981 and graduated from First Recruit Training Battalion at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina, on November 6, 1981, before being meritoriously promoted to Private First Class; and

Whereas, Private First Class Jenkins served his first assignment at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, and earned promotions to the ranks of Corporal and Sergeant during his tour with the Second Marine Division there, including three deployments: Norway Boguard82, UNITAS XXIV, and UNITAS XXV; and

Whereas, during those early years, Jenkins also married his best friend and lifelong companion, the former Lorraine Gibson, on June 3, 1983; and

Whereas, Sergeant Jenkins was next stationed at Marine Aviation Training Support Group in Meridian, Mississippi, where he was promoted to Staff Sergeant and, in 1987, was the first Marine selected as the Naval Technical Training Center Servicemen of the Year, and where Frederick, Jr. was born to Jenkins and his wife Lorraine; and

Whereas, Staff Sergeant Jenkins later served at Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron-29 at Marine Corps Air Station, New River, and was appointed to Warrant Officer in February 1992 after completing his deployment to Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm; and

Whereas, Warrant Officer Jenkins was transferred to Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, and over a three-year span there, he completed two six-month WESTPAC deployments and a deployment to Kuwait and relocated the Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 232 from Hawaii to California; and

Whereas, during this eventful time, Warrant Officer Jenkins became the proud father of second son, Corey; and

Whereas, Jenkins' next assignments took him to Okinawa, Japan, and then to Paris Island, South Carolina, and to Fort Lee, Virginia, where he served as the Personnel Officer; and

Whereas, heavily decorated, Chief Warrant Officer Jenkins has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon, among numerous others; and

Whereas, the General Assembly is proud to recognize Chief Warrant Officer Jenkins for his outstanding service in pursuit of the protection of the freedoms of this great nation. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and commend Chief Warrant Officer-4 Frederick Jenkins for twenty-seven years of heroic service in the United States Marine Corps and honor him on the occasion of his retirement for proudly defending his country in time of need.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Chief Warrant Officer Frederick Jenkins.
