A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR LANCE ROBERTS OF CHESTER, SOUTH CAROLINA, COACH AND TEACHER AT CHESTER HIGH SCHOOL, TO THANK HIM FOR OVER A DECADE OF SERVICE TO THE STUDENTS AND ATHLETES OF THE SCHOOL, AND TO WISH HIM GOOD HEALTH AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Lance Roberts has served as a teacher and coach at Chester High School from 1991 to 2005, and during his tenure he taught World Geography, United States History, including Advanced Placement United States History, and taught Teacher Cadets in addition to coaching softball and football; and

Whereas, in 1995, as head coach of the Chester Middle School football team, he led the team to the Region Championship; and

Whereas, during the course of his coaching career at Chester High School, the boys softball team competed in the district championship game in 1997 and the upper state championship in 1999, finishing an impressive runner-up on both occasions, and the girls softball team competed in tournaments in California in both 1996 and 2003; and

Whereas, Coach Roberts's concern and commitment to the youth of his community was never more evident than when he led the softball team in a fundraiser for Chester Sixth Grader and leukemia patient, Jay Grant. His team raised money in both the school and community and after the funds were raised, he allowed the softball team to shave his head in front of the entire student body; and

Whereas, an outstanding teacher and coach, the list of Lance Roberts's many and varied accomplishments includes being named All-Star Coach on the North team in 1999 and Teacher of the Year for Chester High School for the 2001-2002 school year; and

Whereas, a team player at heart, Coach Lance jumped at the chance to mold future educators and from 2001 to 2005, took on the task of teaching and training the Teacher Cadets class; and

Whereas, this hardworking and dedicated educator and coach is also a devoted family man. Coach Roberts is the beloved husband of wife Laura and together they have three wonderful children: Grant, Taylor, and Darcy; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the members of the South Carolina Senate pause to recognize Coach Lance Roberts's enthusiasm and compassion to the students and athletes of Chester High School and his impact on them and the citizens of Chester during his thirteen-year tenure at Chester High School. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor Lance Roberts of Chester, South Carolina, coach and teacher at Chester High School, thank him for over a decade of service to the students and athletes of the school, and wish him good health and happiness in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coach Lance Roberts.
