A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE BROOKLAND-CAYCE HIGH SCHOOL LADY BEARCATS SOCCER TEAM FOR WINNING THE STATE CLASS AAA 2005 SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the members of the Senate were very pleased to learn that the Brookland-Cayce Lady Bearcats won the State Class AAA 2005 Soccer Championship by defeating a fine Eastside team 2-1 in the finals held at the University of South Carolina's Stone Stadium; and

Whereas, in this thrilling championship the score was tied 1-1 after eighty minutes of regulation play. Two ten-minute overtimes changed nothing. Two five-minute sudden-death overtimes also changed nothing, so it came down to a best-of-five in penalty kicks; and

Whereas, during the penalty kick phase three Brookland-Cayce players made their penalty kicks to seal this great win; and

Whereas, the Lady Bearcats finished their season with a 22-4 win-loss record and were Region V and State Class AAA champions; and

Whereas, the Lady Bearcats Meredith Calcina, Latoya Dixon, Christian Patton, Mallory Phillips, and Emily Logan Setzler were named All Region and All State players and in addition Amy Johnson and Mallory Phillips were named North-South All Stars; and

Whereas, under the able leadership of co-coaches Lauren Eudy and Ken Smith, the Lady Bearcats brought deserved credit not only upon themselves and their school but upon their community and county as well; and

Whereas, the members of the Senate, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and congratulate this talented group of young women upon the occasion of their winning this truly deserved championship. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate congratulate the Brookland-Cayce High School Lady Bearcats Soccer Team for winning the State Class AAA 2005 Soccer Championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to co-coaches Lauren Eudy and Ken Smith.
