TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE MRS. IDA MAE BETHEA BLUE FOR HER OUTSTANDING SERVICE IN FURTHERANCE OF HER FAITH AND FOR HER COMMITMENT TO HER FAMILY AND COMMUNITY AS SHE CELEBRATES HER EIGHTY-SEVENTH BIRTHDAY.
Whereas, born in Dillon on June 9, 1918, to Mr. Lawrence Bethea and Mrs. Perlie Mae Bethea, Ida Mae Bethea Blue has lived, worked, and worshipped in Dillon County all her life; and
Whereas, Mrs. Blue has enjoyed a loving, seventy-year marriage to Dr. Daniel W. Blue and was blessed with seven devoted children: the late Mrs. Norma Faye Blue Whitfield, Mr. Daniel W. Blue, Jr., Mr. Victor L. Blue, the late Mr. James L. Blue, Rev. William Franklin Blue, Mr. Ronald Fernando Blue, and Mr. Terry Blue; and
Whereas, serving the Dillon community in numerous worthwhile capacities, Mrs. Blue has been a substitute teacher, and a beauty shop owner, and has worked in the Little Rock plant. In addition, she has worked as a nurse's assistant at St. Eugene Hospital (McLeod Hospital) and continues to read poems to senior citizens through the Dillon County Senior Citizens program; and
Whereas, a faithful member of New Bethel Presbyterian Church in Newtown, she serves as a church Elder, a Sunday School teacher, and in the Nursery Guild, and also dutifully served as a Sunday School teacher at her prior church, St. Stephen United Methodist Church; and
Whereas, truly embodying the phrase, "you're only as old as you feel," community members can find Mrs. Blue walking around downtown Dillon, working in her yard and garden, and cooking for her family and friends; and
Whereas, family and friends will gather in celebration of Mrs. Blue's eighty-seventh birthday on June 12, 2005, at her church in Dillon, and it is with great pleasure and admiration that the members of the Senate recognize such an exceptional daughter of South Carolina as Ida Mae Bethea Blue. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, honor and recognize Mrs. Ida Mae Bethea Blue for her outstanding service in furtherance of her faith and for her commitment to her family and community as she celebrates her eighty-seventh birthday.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Ida Mae Bethea Blue.
