A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE HOLLY HILL ACADEMY VARSITY GIRLS SOFTBALL TEAM OF ORANGEBURG COUNTY ON ITS SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS AA SOFTBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, AND TO HONOR THE PLAYERS AND THEIR COACHES, HENRY LOCKEY AND MAC SHULER, ON AN EXCEPTIONAL SEASON.

Whereas, the Holly Hill Academy Lady Raiders Softball Team capped its impressive 2005 season by winning the SCISA Class AA Softball State Championship; and

Whereas, the championship win and incredible season were made possible through the hard work, before and during the season, by the players, coaches, and trainers; and

Whereas, the team set a school record with an amazing twenty-six wins, twenty-one of which were earned during regular season play; and

Whereas, achieving a true storybook win, the Holly Hill Softball Team came back from the losers' bracket to capture the State Championship title, defeating Colleton Prep 6-5 and 7-2 in two consecutive games; and

Whereas, the championship win was truly a coordinated effort by the whole team, which included: Melissa Lockey, Tiffany Prescott, Elaine Edwards, Rebecca DuPree, Kristine Parker, Betsy Bull, Rachel Carpenter, Caroline Purvis, Mary Lockey, Stephanie Peagler, Trisha Mauldin, Brittany Dantzler, Brittany Cheek, Taylor Owens, Wehme Carolyn Hutto, and Katie Carpenter; and

Whereas, team stand-outs include Melissa Lockey, Elaine Edwards, and Tiffany Prescott, who were selected as both All-Region and North/South All-Stars; Taylor Owens, who was selected for All-Region; and Rachel Carpenter, who was selected as a North/South All-Star. Melissa Lockey also was selected as the High School Sports Report South Carolina Independent School Association AA Player of the Year, and Head Coach Henry Lockey was chosen as the AA Coach of the Year; and

Whereas, seniors Melissa Lockey and Elaine Edwards will continue on with their athletic careers by playing college softball at the University of South Carolina Upstate and Charleston Southern University, respectively; and

Whereas, Holly Hill Academy and the Holly Hill community as a whole take great pride in the outstanding accomplishments of the Lady Raiders Softball Team, and expect to see continued success from its players, both on and off the field. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate the Holly Hill Academy Varsity Girls Softball Team of Orangeburg County on its South Carolina Independent School Association Class AA State Softball Championship title, and honor the players and their coaches, Henry Lockey and Mac Shuler, on an exceptional season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the players and coaches of the Holly Hill Academy Varsity Girls Softball Team.
