VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO AMEND CHAPTER 1, TITLE 7, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 7-1-110, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT A STATE OR LOCAL GOVERNMENTAL AUTHORITY HAVING JURISDICTION OVER HIGHWAY RIGHT-OF-WAYS IS PROHIBITED FROM REMOVING ANY SIGNS BEARING POLITICAL MESSAGES RELATING TO AN ELECTION, PRIMARY, OR REFERENDUM FROM A HIGHWAY RIGHT-OF-WAY IN THE FOURTEEN-DAY PERIOD PRECEDING THE ELECTION OR ON ELECTION DAY.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Chapter 1, Title 7 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 7-1-110. A state or local governmental authority having jurisdiction over highway right-of-ways is prohibited from removing any signs bearing political messages relating to an election, primary, or referendum from a highway right-of-way in the fourteen-day period preceding the election or on election day."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
