A SENATE RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING TOMMY PRESTON, JR. OF CLEMSON, SOUTH CAROLINA UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS ELECTION AS STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH SUCCESS DURING HIS TERM AND IN HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Tommy Preston, Jr. was born on April 12, 1985, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Tommy Preston, Sr. and Jessie Torrey Preston; and

Whereas, Tommy is a third year Political Science major at the University of South Carolina; and

Whereas, prior to his election as Student Body President, Tommy served on the Freshmen Council, as Student Senator for the College of Arts and Sciences, where he created the Carolina Minority Outreach Program to bring more minorities to campus, and, last year, as Student Government Treasurer; and

Whereas, Tommy was elected with an overwhelming seventy percent of the vote, considered a mandate to continue the work he and Vice President Ryan Holt had begun earlier; and

Whereas, as President, Tommy hopes to continue to work with the Student Government, the Student Body, and University and local officials on his initiatives including: raising the credit limit, establishing a grade forgiveness plan, creating a University television station, and installing a multi-stop trolley system to keep students connected to the surrounding community; and

Whereas, when not busy with Student Government, he is involved with the Alumni Association, the South Carolina State Student Association, the JUMP mentoring program, and serves as a page for Senator Martin. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Tommy Preston, Jr. on his election as Student Body President at the University of South Carolina and to wish him much success during his term and in his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Tommy Preston, Jr.
