TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE TENTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA BOOK FESTIVAL ON FEBRUARY 24 THROUGH 26, 2006, AT THE METROPOLITAN CONVENTION CENTER IN COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA, TO ENCOURAGE ALL SOUTH CAROLINIANS TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS EXCEPTIONAL EVENT, AND TO WISH THE HUMANITIES COUNCIL SC SUCCESS IN CONTINUING TO PRESENT THE SOUTH CAROLINA BOOK FESTIVAL FOR MANY MORE YEARS.
Whereas, The Humanities Council SC is a non-profit organization and a state program of the National Endowment for the Humanities that inspires, engages, and enriches South Carolinians with programs on literature, history, culture, and heritage; and
Whereas, each year since 1997, The Humanities Council SC has invited authors to meet with and speak to the public in Columbia for the South Carolina Book Festival; and
Whereas, funding for the South Carolina Book Festival has come from We The People, a special project grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, from the non-profit community and related sources, including the South Carolina State Library and the South Carolina Arts Commission, and from generous donations by corporations and individuals; and
Whereas, increasing numbers of South Carolina residents and visitors have attended the annual South Carolina Book Festival to enjoy the information provided by and interaction with authors from across the country; and
Whereas the South Carolina Book Festival has continued to grow in popularity and prominence each year; and
Whereas, this year the South Carolina Book Festival will feature more than eighty authors and numerous exhibitors in the fields of fiction, nonfiction, children's books, poetry, and other interests; and
Whereas, the 2006 South Carolina Book Festival to be celebrated on February 24 through 26 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center will be the tenth anniversary of the Festival; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, do hereby acknowledge the tenth anniversary of the South Carolina Book Festival and encourage all South Carolinians to participate in this exceptional event. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly acknowledge the tenth anniversary of the South Carolina Book Festival and wish its sponsor The Humanities Council SC success in continuing to present the Festival for many more years.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to The Humanities Council SC.
