CONGRATULATING JOSEPH TAYLOR POWELL, OF MULLINS, SOUTH CAROLINA, FOR OBTAINING THE ELITE RANK OF EAGLE SCOUT, COMMENDING HIM FOR HIS HARD WORK, PERSEVERANCE, AND MANY ACHIEVEMENTS WHILE EARNING THE HIGHEST AWARD OF THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA, AND WISHING HIM EVERY SUCCESS IN ALL OF HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, Joseph Taylor Powell was born October 26, 1987 to Joseph L. and Susan T. Powell of Mullins, South Carolina; and
Whereas, while achieving the rank of Eagle Scout is a long and arduous path, Joseph's accomplishment were rewarded March 5, 2006 at 3: 00 P.M. at Mullins Presbyterian Church; and
Whereas, he began the Scouts in the second grade moving from Wolf Scout, Bear Scout, and Webelo Scout to Boy Scout in the sixth grade; and
Whereas, Joseph is an active Scout participant. He currently is Assistant Scout Master and has previously served as Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, and Senior Patrol Leader; and
Whereas, in addition to being active within the troop, demonstrating the principals of the Scout Oath and Law daily, and earning at least twenty-one merit badges, it is also necessary to serve in a leadership capacity, work on service projects, and write an essay detailing ambitions and life goals; and
Whereas, meeting these requirements, Joseph is a member of the Interact Club at Mullins High School, played on the school's soccer team, and ran track and cross country; and
Whereas, he hopes to further his academic career at Francis Marion, majoring in engineering; and
Whereas, Joseph was awarded the Order of the Arrow, serving as Scouting's National Honor Society, bestowed upon those scouts that best exemplify the Oath and Law in their daily lives. The Order of the Arrow also provides these scouts leadership training at summer camps. Joseph has attended Scout Camp at Camp Coker, Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, and Double H Ranch in New Mexico; and
Whereas, Joseph is an active member of his church, participating in the church's youth group, the Praise Band, and preparing and serving food for homeless shelters in Myrtle Beach; and
Whereas, Joseph is a South Carolina son who serves as a positive role model, not just for boy scouts, but for all of South Carolina's young people. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Joseph Taylor Powell on achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, commend him for his hard work, perseverance, and many achievements while earning this award, and wish him every success in all of his future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Joseph Taylor Powell.
