A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE CLASS OF 1956 OF THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA AS IT CELEBRATES ITS FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY AND TO COMMEND THE MEMBERS OF THIS OUTSTANDING CLASS FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO THEIR COMMUNITIES, STATE, NATION, AND WORLD.

Whereas, the Class of 1956 entered the University of South Carolina at the beginning of Donald Russell's presidency in September 1952 and graduated in June 1956, as the first class to be enrolled through the first four years of his tenure; and

Whereas, many members of the Class of 1956 later achieved distinction in business, education, engineering, journalism, law, medicine, public service, religion, and other disciplines arising from the arts and sciences; and

Whereas, the members of the Class of 1956, first as students and then an alumni for fifty years, have demonstrated their love, devotion, and generosity to their alma mater as "Men and Women of Carolina"; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, offer their sincere good wishes to the members of this class who are with us and remember with gratitude those who are no longer present. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate congratulate the Class of 1956 of the University of South Carolina as it celebrates it Fiftieth Anniversary November 3 and 4, 2006, and commend the members of this outstanding class for their contributions to their communities, state, nation, and world.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the University of South Carolina Class of 1956.
