A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR STAFF SERGEANT ROBERT O. BROWN OF IRMO WHO WAS AWARDED THE BRONZE STAR FOR EXCEPTIONALLY MERITORIOUS SERVICE AND HEROIC ACTIONS DURING OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud to learn that Staff Sergeant Robert O. Brown of Irmo, was awarded the Bronze Star on April 27, 2006; and

Whereas, having distinguished himself as a noncommissioned officer, Staff Sergeant Brown was presented with the Bronze Star for his service during Operation Iraqi Freedom; and

Whereas, Staff Sergeant Brown's dedication, commitment to mission accomplishment, and outstanding leadership was demonstrated on March 19, 2005, when his convoy came under attack; Brown's actions under fire and in the aftermath saved the lives of his team members and ensured the safety of the convoy; and

Whereas, Staff Sergeant Brown's outstanding leadership, firm guidance, and expertise in convoy operations inspired those who served with him in the convoy security force. His performance in the face of an attack by an armed enemy is in the highest traditions of 143rd Transportation Group and the United States Army and is a testament to his fortitude, capabilities, and professionalism; and

Whereas, Staff Sergeant Brown is a graduate of Lexington High School and attended Midlands Technical College. While serving in the United States Army Reserves, his unit was activated for service in Iraq in July 2004. He and his wife, the former Jill Jovanelly, are the proud parents of a daughter, Kaitlyn, six and a half months old; and

Whereas, it is with great pride and gratitude that the members of the South Carolina General Assembly pause in their deliberations to recognize such an outstanding officer and courageous South Carolinian. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor Staff Sergeant Robert O. Brown of Irmo, who was awarded the Bronze Star for exceptionally meritorious service and heroic actions during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Staff Sergeant Robert O. Brown.
