TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR VIRGINIA LACY OF COLUMBIA FOR HER OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE EDUCATION OF SOUTH CAROLINA'S YOUTH AND TO WISH HER THE VERY BEST UPON HER RETIREMENT.
Whereas, it is with great pride that the South Carolina Senate recognizes South Carolinians who selflessly give of their time and energy in educating and developing young minds; and
Whereas, it is appropriate to recognize the great achievements and contributions of those who teach and to commend these individuals who year after year continue to inspire and encourage South Carolina's children; and
Whereas, Virginia Lacy of Columbia, who began teaching in Atlanta in 1966, is bringing her long and distinguished career in education to a close as she retires from Crayton Middle School at the end of this school year; and
Whereas, an honor graduate of Agnes Scott College in Atlanta and after five years of teaching in Atlanta, Georgia's loss was South Carolina's gain when Mrs. Lacy moved to Columbia and began teaching Social Studies at Olympia; and
Whereas, after leaving Olympia and continuing her career at E. L. Wright Elementary School, where she was honored as Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Lacy, though she loved her students and the classroom, was drawn to working with all aspects of education and decided to pursue a career in administration; and
Whereas, after being appointed principal of Satchel Ford Elementary School in 1994, Principal Lacy guided her faculty and staff through the process to become a United States Department of Education National Blue Ribbon School, an achievement of great merit and pride; and
Whereas, in 2002, Mrs. Lacy became principal of Crayton Middle School, which she also guided through a rigorous process for Crayton to receive the prestigious designation as an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme School; and
Whereas, her contributions and achievements as a teacher and administrator are a testament to Virginia Lacy's professionalism, her love of teaching, and her commitment to excellence; and
Whereas, Mrs. Lacy remains as dedicated to her students and to the furtherance of public education as she was when she began her career in teaching thirty years ago, and the members of the Senate are pleased to have the opportunity to recognize such an outstanding administrator and exceptional educator as Virginia Lacy. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Virginia Lacy of Columbia for her outstanding contributions to the education of South Carolina's youth and wish her all the very best upon her retirement.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Virginia Lacy.
