CONGRATULATING THE FRANCIS MARION UNIVERSITY BASEBALL TEAM ON WINNING THE NCAA DIVISION II TOURNAMENT, THE SOUTH ATLANTIC REGION TITLE, AND WISHING THEM MUCH SUCCESS IN THEIR FIRST APPEARANCE AT THE COLLEGE WORLD SERIES IN MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA.
Whereas, the Francis Marion University baseball team will be making its first ever trip to the NCAA Division II College World Series, May 27 through June 3, in Montgomery, Alabama; and
Whereas, the 2005-2006 baseball team set a school record for wins in a season, with a 41-16 record, and number of wins in the Peach Belt Conference with nineteen; and
Whereas, the team made its third trip to the NCAA Division II Tournament in the past four years, and then won its first South Atlantic Region title in Milledgeville, Georgia; and
Whereas, twenty of the twenty eight members of the team are from South Carolina, including Sophomore right-handed pitcher Dylan Owen who was named the conference and region "Pitcher of the Year," as well as earning Most Valuable Player honors at the South Atlantic Regional Tournament; and
Whereas, the Patriots are ably trained and led by Head Coach Art Inabinet, who recorded his 250th career coaching win, Assistant Coach Robbie Wilson, Student Assistant Coach B.J. McClurskey and trainer Spyder Webb, who all have helped instill a strong work ethic and team pride that has directly led to their record setting season, championship wins, and current placement in the Division II College World Series. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, congratulate the Francis Marion baseball team on winning the NCAA Division II Tournament and the South Atlantic Region Title, and wish them much success in their first appearance at the Division II College World Series.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Francis Marion President Fred Carter, Head Coach Art Inabinet, and the Francis Marion baseball team.
