TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 58-12-15 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT BEGINNING JULY 1, 2005, THE RATES AND OTHER CONSUMER CHARGES OF CABLE TELEVISION COMPANIES OPERATING IN SOUTH CAROLINA SHALL BE APPROVED BY THE PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Chapter 12, Title 58 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 58-12-15. Beginning July 1, 2005, the rates and other consumer charges of cable television companies operating in South Carolina shall be approved by the Public Service Commission. Nothing in this section shall restrict the authority of municipalities and counties to issue franchise licenses to cable television companies operating within their territorial limits or otherwise regulate the operation of cable television companies in the manner authorized by this chapter."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
